Do I need 6 months on my passport for both entry and exit when travelling to China?

I'm planning to go to China. When I arrive I will have 6 months and a few days validity on my passport but only 5 months and however many days when I leave. Will I be able to get a visa and will I be allowed entry into the country if it's noticed that I won't have a full 6 months at the time of departure or is it only the date of entry into PRC that is important?
