How old should you be if you were going to read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo?

I was wondering if there was an age you should be before trying to read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Recently I watched the movie version (and it was amazing!) and I was thinkin of reading the book, but I'm not sure if I'm too young to read it. I read more mature books and have always been a good reader ( I read all of the Harry Potter books when i was 8) but I don't know if any of the subjects it talks about in Les Mis would be too mature for me.
